PEORIA — A takeout seafood restaurant in North Peoria has closed after less than a year in that location.

Anchors Away Crab n' Go, located on North Knoxville Avenue, posted on its Facebook page that it was closed and has not been open during normal business hours. The restaurant's phone number has been disconnected, and online listings show it as permanently closed.

The eatery returned to Peoria in the fall of 2021 following a four-year hiatus. Sandra Cabbell, the restaurant's owner, had been operating an Anchors Away location in Springfield and commuting there most days from her home in Peoria. Last year, she told the Journal Star that the decision to open a new Peoria location was motivated by a desire to work closer to home.

The Springfield location remains open, according to online listings. Cabbell did not respond to a request for comment.

In June, she told the Journal Star that her business, like many others, was suffering as a result of record high inflation.

"With the price of inflation, price of gas, people not wanting to work, it's been hard," she said. "We are in the same boat as everyone else. Local businesses are getting hit the hardest when it comes to support."
