Castlewood sneaks past De Smet with late touchdown: High school football roundup

Here are results of area high school football games for the first week of the 2022 season. Statistical details were not reported for some games.

Thursday

Sisseton 22, Dakota Hills 0: Sisseton's defense recovered three fumbles, notched two quarterback sacks and limited the Grizzlies to 91 yards of total offense in the win. The Redmen tallied 187 yards of offense and got touchdown runs from Nate Tchida (11 carries for 83 yards), Mikah Hamm (12 for 78) and Ethan DeSpiegler. Jason Fisher caught three passes for 55 yards and Mason Shultz led the defense with seven solo tackles and six assists.

•  Elkton-Lake Benton 55, Colman-Egan 14: Ryan Krog completed seven of 10 passes for 103 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for 117 yards and another score for the Elks. Tanner Stein caught four passes for 94 yards and three TDs. Riddick Westley ran for 111 yards and joined Dustin Asmus with TD runs. Easton Williams and Hayden Pearson each had TD runs for Colman-Egan.

Friday

Castlewood 20, De Smet 14: Lane Tvedt's 17-yard touchdown pass to Booker Schooley with 2:28 remaining lifted the Warriors to the win over the fourth-rated Class 9B Bulldogs. Quincy Thu scored on a 55-yard run and a 35-yard pass from Tvedt for Castlewood. Tvedt passed for 120 yards and ran for 48, Thu ran for 84 and Jackson Schofield caught two passes for 58 yards. Byron Laue's 11 tackles and Adam Heyn's seven led the defense.

Trace VanRegenmorter (4 yards) and Kadyn Fast (21 yards) each had TD runs for De Smet. Fast finished with 87 yards rushing. Dylan Zell and Tom Aughenbaugh had seven tackles apiece.

Deuel 14, Clark-Willow Lake 0: Owen Quail scored on runs of 1 and 5 yards in the first half to carry Deuel to the win. Braydon Simon ran for 55 yards, Quail 54 and Carver Nothem 51 for Deuel, which also got 48 passing yards from Simon and two extra-point kicks from Josh Mussi. Trey Huber passed for 20 yards and ran for 30 for Clark-Willow Lake. Robbie Begalka made eight tackles and Dominic Constant six for Deuel.

Deubrook Area 50, Estelline-Hendricks 0: Colin Bauman ran for two scores (5 and 35 yards) and tossed scoring passes to Gavin Landmark (77 and 30 yards) and Jake Jorenby (68 yards) for Deubrook Area. JP Rogness added a 99-yard TD run and Treven Grimsrud returned an interception 67 yards for another score. Bauman also had an interception.

• Hamlin 42, Florence-Henry 6: Luke Fraser ran for 163 yards and two TDs (37 and 3 yards) and Tyson Stevenson completed six of eight passes for 96 yards and three scores for the fifth-rated Class 9AA Chargers. Zac VanMeeteren (23 yards), Evan Stormo (11) and Dawson Noem (16 yards) each had TD receptions and Troy Randall Jr. booted six extra-point kicks. Kasen Prouty tallied 4.5 tackles and Cristhian Rodriguez four.

Tegan Sumner passed for 93 yards, including a 21-yard scoring strike to Mehki Keller, for the Falcons. Clay Truple caught four passes for 72 yards. Keller had 5.5 tackles and Trupe 4.5.

• Britton-Hecla 44, Great Plains Lutheran 34: BoDell Davidson accounted for 295 yards (143 rushing and 152 passing) and four touchdowns for the Braves. He scored on runs of 59 and 33 yards and also connected with Gage Storley (58 yards) and Wyatt Tosse (56 yards) on scoring passes. Collin Beaner added a 27-yard TD run and Luke Storley returned an interception for another score. Dashel Davidson made eight tackles and Beaner 7.5.

Thomas Erickson ran 25 times for 136 yards and four touchdowns (1, 4, 7 and 14) for GPL, which also got a 15-yard TD run from Micah Holien. Brody Scharleman ran for 92 yards and Holien 58. Holen was involved in 7.5 tackles and Kowynn Muhl 5.5.

Sioux Valley 34, Jim River 14: Jace Christensen passed for 100 yards and two scores to Hudsyn Ruesink (27 and 20 yards) and also hit paydirt on a 1-yard plunge for the fourth-rated Class 11B Cossacks. Brock Christopherson ran for 113 yards and two TDs (27 and 31).

Logan Sayler scored on a 14-yard run and an 87-yard kickoff return for Jim River. Stephen Johnson ran for 58 yards. Kaedyn Ulmer threw for 86 yards, teaming with Brayden Sattler three times for 85.
