Opinion: Jasiel Correia's stay-out-of-jail-for-the-holidays gambit is bogus; lock him up

·1 min read

I cannot believe the arrogance and ignorance of former mayor Jasiel Correia as displayed in his appeal to remain free from his prison sentence through the holidays.

His excuse that his family desperately needs his help is bogus. They own two successful businesses and can easily get along without him. Or is the long-range plan to allow him out for all holidays in the future? Maybe Halloween too?

He probably learned his criminal behavior at the feet of his relatives, so he should probably be removed from their influence as soon as possible. "If you can't do the time then don't do the crime."

Criminal behavior by politicians at all levels has become commonplace and even accepted. A good start to putting a stop to it is to make this one report to prison immediately and serve his entire sentence.
