Jul. 9—God is revealing himself

Please consider a place in your publication where people can submit positive thoughts and observations or maybe even prayers not necessarily connected to the news and events of the day. Possibly historical quotes like from Mark Twain or our founding fathers, etc.

For instance, I am 72 and have been following the progression of information on the Shroud of Turin. From when I first read about it in school, this would have been in the mid-sixties, and my opinion has changed many times over the years, but this my opinion today.

I choose to believe that the shroud is the true shroud of Jesus. I also believe that the fact that our technology has advanced enough to evaluate this artifact in such great detail is God own timing.

This is a fantastic time in our history. God is revealing himself to humanity. I used to believe that the Bible was just verbal parables eventually put together as the Bible. Well, at 72 years old, I now believe the Bible is Gods pure Divine word, incorruptible by time and by His will.

This is my prayer:

Thank you Jesus for blessing us with your grace to live in this time when your glory, your word, your truth, your face and your body are revealed to us believers. Amen

Thank you and God bless.

Both political parties deserve criticism

In my screed that was published here a few weeks ago, I used my 350-word limit to castigate Democrats who continue to support the Biden administration. So I could not devote an equal number of words criticizing and condemning Republicans in Congress.

But later, I realized that there are not enough words in the English language to express my contempt for those Republicans.

Gore Vidal famously said that in America there is one political party with two right wings. Maybe, I say there is one party with two nicknames. But both pseudo-parties seem to love war.

The Democrat president has put the U.S. in a pointless war against Russia, but Republican war hawks are funding it. How much more does a person need to know about our wayward government?

And remember all the phony talk about the government defaulting? "We have to raise the debt ceiling or we're all gonna die." Oh my, Clutch your pearls.

Not to worry, though. The government will never default. Smoke and mirrors will ensure that it does not. Politicians always blab about cutting spending, and blab is all they do.

So what has the great Republican leader, Kevin McCarthy, done to protect American taxpayers from government waste? The following sentence, from BBC, answers that question.

"In the deal that passed through Congress, they have not raised the [debt] limit to a certain level, but suspended it entirely until 2025."

(I'm allowed about 100 more words here, but I'm too sick at my stomach to continue.)
