OPINION:Springville Happenings 5/19/22

May 19—Springville Elementary School celebrated School Nurses Melissa Long and Haley Butler Haley for National Nurses Day on May 11th, pictured with Principal Chris Hill.

Congratulations to Jacob Poythress who was selected as the Springville Rotary Club's student of the month . He attends SCCHS, played on the baseball team for 5 years (left field). He is the SGA Treasurer and participates in Dual Enrollment classes. He will graduate from Jeff State in 2023 then plans to attend JSU with a business degree.

Congratulations to the following SHS students for winning awards in the Alabama Writers' Forum High School Literary Arts Awards (L to R):

Meaghan Tucker won Special Judge's Recognition for Fiction, Libby Thornton won Creative Nonfiction Cash Award, Elloway Wyatt won the Mozelle Purvis Shirley Senior Portfolio Scholarship

And Makayla Montgomery won Certificate of Merit in Fiction

Congratulations to the Springville SYA Softball 10U-Upchurch Team for their runner up finish in the USA Softball of Alabama Recreation Ring Tournament in Rainsville on May 1st.

The Springville Library hosted Preschool Storytime on May 5th with a book reading with Ms. Shallon.

Springville Streetscapes Photography Workshop classes are being offered by Professional photographer Brandy Simmons Tucker on May 28th at Springville Methodist Church. For more information, contact Ms. Tucker at Bebetuck11@gmail.com.

The Springville Police Department and the Springville Fire Department will host Springville Night Out on June 18th at Springville High School from 12p.m. until 5p.m. with a special guest appearance by Basmmaster Elite Pro Wes Logan. There will be free hot dogs, cotton candy and face painting.

The Springville Preservation Society is taking reservations for use of the historic "Little House" located adjacent to the Police Department for events or meetings.
