An Oprah Winfrey Biopic is Coming to Apple TV+, Here's What We Know So Far

The documentary will be directed by Academy Award-winner Kevin MacDonald, who worked on Whitney Houston's 2018 biographical doc, Whitney. Additionally, Lisa Erspamer (who also worked on Whitney) will be producing the film, but this won't be her first time working with Winfrey. It turns out that Erspamer has a long-standing relationship with the TV host, since she produced The Oprah Winfrey Show from 1999 to 2009.

Further details about the doc, including its official title and release date, have yet to be revealed. However, it's just one of many projects that Apple and Harpo (Winfrey's production company) have teamed up on. If you recall, the two companies signed a multi-year deal in 2018 and, since then, they've gifted fans with shows like The Oprah Conversation, Oprah’s Book Club and Oprah Talks COVID-19.

While discussing the partnership with Hollywood Reporter in 2019, Winfrey said, “Apple exposes you to a whole lot more people. The thing that I'm really, really excited about—as I said that day—is creating the world's largest book club. And if I want to do a film or a doc series...The best place for [my docuseries on mental health] is not on OWN. Because you don't have the bandwidth and you have to create a completely different audience and then you have to have marketing.”
