OPSB authorizes construction of solar farm in Putnam County

Jul. 19—MILLER CITY, Ohio — The Ohio Power Siting Board's approval last week of the 150-megawatt Powell Creek Solar project will result in a $150 million investment in Putnam County's economy and support as many as 400 jobs during construction, according to the project's developer, Avangrid Renewables.

Moreover, the project will contribute more than $31 million to local taxing jurisdictions over the life of the solar arrays, with more than $5 million going to the Putnam County's general fund, the company website said.

That project was one of a few authorized by the Columbus-based siting board last Thursday. The project is to be built on privately owned land in Putnam County's Palmer and Liberty townships.

Avangrid said the arrays will produce the energy equivalent of what's used by more than 30,000 homes a year. Payments to Miller City alone are expected to help it afford a new wastewater treatment system, and provide for future growth, the company said.
