Orange County Convention Center set to host a slate of large sports events, boosting the economy

The Orange County Convention Center will play host to several large sports events in the coming weeks that are expected to bring hundreds of millions of dollars to the area.

They’re just wrapping up an April that saw them host several cheer, volleyball, and dance competitions.

Now, they’re set to host a slate of major events throughout the months of May and June, the largest of which will be the 49th 2022 AAU Jr. National Volleyball Championships, scheduled to start on June 14.

An estimated 137,000 people are expected to attend creating an economic impact of more than $175 million.

Other events coming to the Convention Center in May and June include the USA Volleyball Open National Championships and their Corporate Annual Meeting, AAU Wrestling, and the 2022 Fusion national Dance Competition.

“We are thrilled to welcome the strong sporting market back to Orange County and the OCCC,” OCCC Executive Director Mark Tester said. “We are confident that our guests from across the nation will have a fantastic experience during their visit to the Convention Center and International Drive.”

In all, the full spring and summer slate is expected to pull more than $560 million into the Central Florida economy.
