Orange County Coronavirus: No New Deaths Reported Monday

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — No new deaths resulting from COVID-19 infections were reported as of Monday, the Orange County Health Care Agency reported. A total of 221 residents have died since the coronavirus pandemic began.

On Monday, 198 additional residents tested positive for the virus, raising the total number of infected to 8,759.

A total of 315 Orange County residents are currently hospitalized, up 24 from Friday, while the number of those in intensive care climbed by five to 144.

The number of people tested for the virus in the county stands at 184,474 with 4,138 documented recoveries.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department reported 387 inmates have contracted coronavirus.

Over the weekend, 304 new cases of the virus and four more deaths were reported. The news of no new deaths on Monday comes on the heels of what county health officials said was the deadliest week since the beginning of the outbreak. Last week, 43 more deaths were reported.

To date, the ages of those who have died:

According to OC Health Care, the "Other" category includes the aggregate case count of the unincorporated areas of the county that have less than 5 cases, plus cases incarcerated in Orange County jails.

The numbers come alongside the reopening of California's economy. Now, businesses permitted to reopen include bars, gyms and theaters, community pools, schools, day camps, museums, galleries, zoos, aquariums, wineries and family entertainment centers.

Starting June 19, nail salons will also be permitted to reopen. Workers and customers will be required to wear face coverings, according to the state guidelines.
