Orange County to reopen online portal for $1,000 stimulus checks today

Orange County is reopening its online CARES Act stimulus check portal today to aid residents who are facing economic struggles in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The portal will open 8 a.m. and allow residents to apply for a one time payment of $1,000.

Applicants must be an Orange County resident to qualify and provide the following: proof they’ve been financially impacted because of COVID-19, have both a photo ID and Social Security card, and submit documentation of loss of income, which could include pay stubs or an employer notice of reduced hours, layoffs or furloughs.

The program now allows multiple applicants per household to apply for funding. However, applicants will not be granted the check if they have previously received one.

If applicants are approved they will be notified by email.

“With the recent announcement by several employers of thousands of employee layoffs, it will no doubt accentuate the needs for crisis assistance to families in our community and we want to assist as many residents as possible with these relief dollars,” said Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings last week.

Previous portal openings have seen Orange’s website shut down anywhere between the first five minutes to about 45 minutes after it opens.

Orange has spent $30 million helping 30,000 household so far this year, according to its site.
