'Orange Jesus' has own set of rules; Johnson has experience to be great SOS: Your letters

Johnson has the experience to be excellent secretary of state

As a practicing business attorney, I know the importance of a well-functioning Secretary of State's Office. Not only does the secretary of state administer elections in South Dakota, but this office also handles the filing of documents pertaining to corporate and business matters for all South Dakota industries.

Over the course of the past 20 years, Monae Johnson has worked for both Chris Nelson and Shantel Krebs, who were both excellent secretaries of state. Monae has learned what needs to be done to fairy oversee elections and to smoothly handle the administration duties of this office. I strongly support her election.

'Orange Jesus' lives by his own set of standards

In recent months the legal problems of Donald Trump have multiplied. The website www.justsecurity.org outlines the dozens of cases pending against him. These consist of civil as well as criminal cases in many jurisdictions, including the state of New York, the Southern District of New York (Manhattan), Fulton County Georgia, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Department of Justice. A brief summary of what he faces includes tax crimes, financial fraud, insurance fraud, assaults on women, inciting a riot in the attack on the US Capitol, election interference, obstruction of justice, mishandling of classified documents and violation of the espionage act. Most Americans with this litany of crimes on their plate would be behind bars by now. Indeed, there are two justice systems in this country: one for the privileged wealthy and one for average Americans. Like a New York mob boss, Trump has learned to manipulate the system and put off the inevitable. But inevitably he will go to prison, as will many of his unscrupulous sidekicks.

Congresswoman Liz Cheney recently referred to Trump as the “Orange Jesus.” She was quoting one of her fellow GOP colleagues who exasperatingly stated, “The things we have to do for the Orange Jesus.” No man less deserves to be compared to Jesus, but it is a fitting description of what Trump has become in the eyes of the Make America Great Again crew. This man with the freakish orange skin is the charismatic leader of millions of followers who believe everything he says without question. But his glory days of lies and crimes will soon come to an end. Trump will be carted off to prison wearing traditional convict garb. We will then see a transformation of MAGA. The cult of the red cap will fade away and become the cult of the orange jumpsuit.
