Whether you're looking for a break from the kitchen this Thanksgiving or are simply looking to support local this holiday season, you're in luck.

Some Orange and Ulster county restaurants will be open and are offering special menus. Others are offering Thanksgiving takeout for you to enjoy among family and friends for a no-fuss meal spent at home.

Like everyone else, restaurants have had a hard year, yet have kept going amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. From staffing shortages to supply chain difficulties, it hasn't been easy — but restaurateurs are proving their resilience.

With staffing being short at some eateries, more so than ever, reservations and preorders are strongly recommended. Here's a sampling of what's open in Orange and Ulster this Thanksgiving. Enjoy — and don't forget to save room for dessert.

Diamond Mills Tavern, Saugerties

Executive chef Marcos Castro offers a five-course meal featuring seasonal favorites like roasted butternut squash bisque and sliced organic turkey breast with cumin-glazed heirloom carrots and cranberry sauce. Looking for something other than turkey? Also among the entrees are herb-crusted prime rib, stuffed rainbow trout and duck confit. Sample the apple cider bourbon cake for dessert, made with honey crisp apples and cinnamon cream cheese. Adults are $95, children 5-12 are $22, children 4 and under are free. Cucina, Woodstock

Settle into this renovated farmhouse-turned-restaurant for your three-course Thanksgiving feast. Try the butternut squash soup with toasted pumpkin seeds, roasted turkey with roasted Brussels sprouts and sausage-sage stuffing and round out your meal with a slice of pumpkin, pecan or apple pie. The prix-fixe price is $70 per person, or choose a-la-carte dining for appetizers, salads, pizzas, main courses and sides. Dine in at this classic family diner in Middletown for Thanksgiving. Their regular menu is available on Turkey Day, as well as a special Thanksgiving menu complete with turkey, potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, soups and salads. Ship Lantern Inn, Milton

The restaurant will be open with both popular menu items and special seasonal fare for the holiday. Pack in the sides at this all-you-can-eat dinner with candied yams, garlic mashed potatoes and roasted Brussels sprouts. This farm to table restaurant is open for takeout on Thanksgiving, with chef Marcus Guiliano offering traditional roasted local turkey, Tofurkey for the vegetarians, wild salmon and rib-eye steak. He'll also be serving up an array of local sides, like organic creamed corn, organic sweet potatoes, sautéed vegetables and house-made Cape Cod cranberry sauce. Gluten-free options are available as well, from pies to stuffing. Everything goes by person at $34.99 per plate. Whole cooked Murray's turkeys are available at $10 per pound, and complete dinners are running at $32 per person.
