1,046 new cases, 42 deaths

The Oregon Health Authority reported 1,046 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, along with 42 deaths.

Marion County accounted for 62 cases, while Polk County had 22.

Of those whose deaths were recorded, nine were from Marion County:

  • A 76-year-old man who died Aug. 30 at his residence.

  • A 73-year-old man who died Oct. 1 at Samaritan Albany General Hospital.

  • A 59-year-old man who died Oct. 4 at Santiam Hospital.

  • A 77-year-old woman who died Oct. 7 at Samaritan Albany General Hospital.

  • A 58-year-old man who died Nov. 10 at Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center.

  • A 76-year-old woman who died Nov. 23 at Salem Hospital.

  • A 64-year-old woman who died Nov. 27 at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.

  • A 54-year-old woman who died Nov. 28 at Salem Hospital.

  • A 79-year-old man who died Nov. 30 at Salem Hospital.

Hospitals statewide were treating 384 patients with COVID-19, including 90 in intensive care unit beds.

The state's adult ICU bed capacity is at 93% and non-ICU bed capacity is at 92%.

The vast majority of new coronavirus cases are still among unvaccinated individuals, the Oregon Health Authority reported Thursday.

According to its weekly vaccine breakthrough report, 71% of the 4,134 cases reported last week were among unvaccinated people.

There were 1,186 breakthrough cases, 45 of which were among people ages 12 to 17. The average age of a person with a breakthrough case is 47.

To date, 4.4% of vaccine breakthrough cases have resulted in hospitalization and 1.2% in death.

  • 38: Total COVID-19 inpatients, 84% unvaccinated.

  • 2: COVID-19 patients in the ICU.

  • 0: COVID-19 patients on a ventilator.

  • 5,228: People who have died from COVID-19.

  • 393,232: Total cases of COVID-19.
