5. (SOUNDBITE)(English), KATE BROWN, GOVERNOR OF OREGON, SAYING:

"It's really true that Oregon is the mecca of track and field in the entire world and we look forward to hosting the entire world here."

6. (SOUNDBITE) (English) MICHELLE CARTER, AMERICAN SHOT PUTTER AND WOMEN'S TEAM CAPTAIN IN DOHA, SAYING:

"I know that having this opportunity to compete at home is going to give us that energy and extra push 'cause we're gonna feel that love and energy that we don't always get all the time so I'm really looking forward to having world championships here in Eugene 'cause it's going to be a once in a lifetime opportunity."

7. (SOUNDBITE) (English) DEANNA PRICE, AMERICAN DOHA HAMMER THROW GOLD MEDALIST, SAYING:

"It is everything that you want it to be, being able to compete. It is such a high energy, that excitement, for me, every time I've competed in Eugene, Oregon it felt like home to me because you have so many great fans, you have such a great environment and that energy really flows through and you can feel it in competition."

8. (SOUNDBITE) (English) MICHAEL JOHNSON, AMERICAN FORMER OLYMPIC AND WORLD CHAMPION SPRINTER, SAYING:

"Just having the 2021 championships in America is not going to be enough to have this sport or help this sport reach it's full potential in this country. You have to understand, you know, at all different levels how you penetrate this very, very crowded sports landscape in America and how track and field can penetrate that is a little bit more complex."

9. (SOUNDBITE) (English) MIKE POWELL, AMERICAN FORMER LONG JUMP WORLD CHAMPION ON DOPING IN ATHLETICS, SAYING:

"Athletics and track and field, we're pretty much the only sport that tries to bust it's stars, we'll actually bust our stars and catch them, other sports they talk about it but they don't really do it, so I don't think we should be penalized for catching people. Whenever there's something to be gained, power or money, there's going to be people that will be willing to cheat, and we're showing that we're willing to catch them."
