Oregon officials say 15 deaths are suspected to be caused by ice storm
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The ice storm that swept through western Oregon earlier this month led to countless losses including lost power, lost trees and even lost lives.
The Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office says at least 15 deaths were caused by potential hypothermia or other weather-related emergencies between Jan. 12 and Jan. 19.

Multnomah County reported the most deaths with eight in total. Of these, four are suspected cases of hypothermia. Washington, Wasco, Lane, Deschutes, Clackamas, and Marion counties each recorded one suspected hypothermia death.

These deaths cannot be confirmed until an extensive investigation takes place, which could take anywhere between weeks or months.

Three electrocution deaths were recorded in Multnomah County on Jan. 17. after a branch fell onto a live wire, which then fell onto a car near the intersection of Northeast 122th and Siskiyou Street in the Russell Neighborhood. Two adults and one teen died while attempting to get out of the car.
