Oregon schools set to resume classes after storm

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Even though it’s still cold and wet, most schools in the region will open for classes on Monday after a winter storm forced schools to close for nearly a week.

“Thanks to the hard work of our maintenance and facilities teams, we are thrilled to share that nearly all schools will be able to open tomorrow. Many communities suffered storm damage, but the work done by these teams has ensured most issues are resolved,” a letter from Portland Public Schools told parents. “And thanks to City transportation teams and Mother Nature, most bus routes are clear enough to return to normal. If an issue remains along your route, you will receive a message – and if you do not receive a message, please meet your bus at your usual stop at your usual time tomorrow. And if there is a delay, please be patient as we navigate the impacts of the storm.”

KOIN Closings and Delays

Some PPS schools will be closed from water damage suffered during the storm. Among them ar Robert Gray Middle School. Kelly Center Head Start, Markham Elementary School, Ainsworth Elementary School and Forest Park Elementary School.

KOIN 6 News checked with many school districts in the region, and most who responded said classes are scheduled for Monday.

Some, like Reynolds School District, said there may be a delayed start. If that was the case, they would contact parents with the details.

The David Douglas School District will have a 2-hour delay Monday morning, but classes are scheduled.

The one exception so far is the Corbett School District, which remains closed for Monday.

Nearly every PGE customer has had power restored. TriMet is almost fully operational. And PBOT is working to clear the remaining roads that are blocked.
