What's At Stake

Oregon: The Ducks are seeking their third straight Pac-12 championship and are the first team to appear in three straight conference championship games since the Pac-10 was expanded to the Pac-12 and added a conference title contest beginning in 2011. Oregon is 4-0 in Pac-12 title games, the most wins by a team in the conference title contest. To get to 5-0, the Ducks must find a way to beat a Utah team that demolished Oregon 38-7 on Nov. 20 in front of a sold-out Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City. A win puts the Ducks in a New Year's Six bowl game for the third straight year and would give Oregon its fifth Rose Bowl appearance since 2009 and fourth in the past decade. Only Oregon, Stanford and Washington have represented the North Division in the Pac-12 title game where the North is 9-1 and has won three straight since Stanford's 2017 loss to USC. The loser of the Pac-12 championship game is 0-9 in bowl games; USC didn't play in a bowl last year after losing 31-24 to Oregon in the title game.

Utah: The Utes enter their third Pac-12 title game in four years on a five-game winning streak and are 8-1 since starting the season 1-2. The only loss over that span was a 42-34 defeat at Oregon State on Oct. 23 and includes the shellacking of Oregon 13 days ago. The Pac-12 title game hasn't been kind to the Utes' offense as Utah lost 10-3 to Washington in 2018 and 37-15 to Oregon in 2019. The Utes have never won a Pac-12 title and have never played in the Rose Bowl. Utah will tie USC for most Pac-12 title game appearances from the South Division with three. Every South Division team has been to at least one Pac-12 championship game.
