About the opponent

Eastern Washington (1-0), a Football Championship Subdivision team, is coming off a 10-3 season in which it didn't lose a road game for the first time since 1967 and made the FCS playoffs for 15th time. But the Eagles, picked to finish sixth in the Big Sky Conference, lost 10 starters off that team, including 2021 Walter Payton Award winner and all-America quarterback Eric Barriere.

His replacement looked pretty good last week, as Gunner Talkington completed 29 of 46 passes for 348 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions and rushed for 60 yards in a 36-29 win against Tennessee State. On Monday, Talkington was named the Big Sky Conference offensive player of the week.

Senior linebacker Jaren Banks, a transfer from Rice who is a 2018 Sheldon grad and former first-team all-Southwest Conference and second-team all-state player for the Irish, had seven tackles in last Saturday's opener, including 1.5 for a loss of yards.

The last time Ducks, Eagles met

Oregon opened the 2015 season against Eastern Washington and went on to win 61-42 as former Eagles QB Vernon Adams led the Ducks with 245 passing yards, 94 rushing yards and two touchdowns through the air. The star of the game, however, was Eastern Washington receiver and future NFL star and Super Bowl champion Cooper Kupp, who set Autzen Stadium records with 15 catches and 246 receiving yards. He also had three touchdowns.

Winning streaks are on the line

After a rough week on the road, the Ducks will be back in the friendly confines of Autzen Stadium where they have one the best home field advantages in college football. Oregon has won 19 straight at Autzen Stadium, the third-longest active winning streak in the nation. The Ducks have also won 17 straight home openers and 28 straight home games against nonconference opponents, which is the second-longest active streak in the nation behind Alabama (40).
