Update: Original Jimmy's Egg location awaits rezoning from Oklahoma City

You might've noticed the property around the original Jimmy's Egg at the corner of NW 16 Street and May Avenue has not yet been replaced. When the original building went down last winter, company president Ban Nguyen said his family had intended to replace the old building with one that paid tribute to founders Loc and Kim Le. The hope was to reopen this summer.

Well, summer is about over and no dirt has been turned at NW 16 and May.

On my way for one last order of burnt ends from Back Door BBQ, I ran into Nguyen, who was dining with a group of local industry veterans including Verej Jazirvar (Petroleum Club) Dick Stubbs (Cattlemen's Steakhouse) and Rusty Loeffler (Interurban Restaurants) on the penultimate day of service.

Nguyen told me that because their plans for the new building included moving it farther back on the lot, new zoning was needed from the city.

Nguyen said city officials hadn't yet found the time to get that rezoning completed, but once they do, the new place should be erected and open in a matter of months.

Nguyen said he's sure city officials are as anxious as he is to get the project finished. Reckoned it would save valuable time once they didn't have to send letters reminding him to keep the weeds whacked on the vacant lot.
