Orlando Bloom pushes for progress at UNGA

STORY: Actors Orlando Bloom and Forest Whitaker are among some of the stars at the show.

Organized by filmmaker Richard Curtis’ not-for-profit communications agency Project Everyone the show aims to "inspire SDG (Sustainable Development Goal) action", according to the United Nation's YouTube page.

In 2015 world leaders adopted a new global plan of action for ending poverty, known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The 17 goals aimed at resolving the social, economic and environmental problems troubling the world are due to be completed by 2030. The year 2023 is the half way point.

On Monday leaders warned of the peril the world faces unless it acts with urgency to rescue those goals.

Co-hosted by Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley and Deputy Secretary General Amina J. Mohammed, "The Halftime Show" marks the start of a week of programming at the SDG Pavilion on the U.N. lawn.
