Orlando City could extend win streak to 4 with Sounders on tap

Four consecutive wins for Orlando City are in reach in MLS play, before the Lions turn their focus to the Open Cup final.

Tonight they’ll face struggling Seattle (10-14-3, 33 points) at Exploria Stadium while riding an incredible wave of momentum.

“It feels really good. Its always really good to win,” defender João Moutinho said. “Now that we’re on that winning streak we’re going to try to keep it as long as we can.”

The Lions (11-10-6, 39 points) are coming off a 2-1 victory against New York City FC on a 96th-minute goal over the weekend.

Tesho Akindele scored the winner for the second week in a row. He also converted in the 89th minute at Charlotte as Orlando City stole 3 points 10 days ago.

Forward Iván Angulo, 23, assisted on the most recent one to Akindele.

“The emotions I felt in that moment is something I can’t really describe,” he said of his first assist with Orlando City. “To be able to provied that assist in that moment was just incredible.”

The Sounders, who are below the cutoff line for the postseason and in desperate need of a victory, are vulnerable. They lost 2-1 by the Portland Timbers last weekend.

“Historically, they’ve been one of the best teams in the league,” Moutinho said. “They have really good players who’ve played together for a long time.

“We’re not trying to look past them. It’s going to be a really tough game for us.”

Look past as in the Open Cup final on Sept. 7. That’s when the Lions play for their first trophy vs. Sacramento Republic FC at sold-out Exploria Stadium.
