Orlando City is selling playoff hero Rodrigo Schlegel keeper kit

Orlando City honored an iconic performance by centerback Rodrigo Schlegel, quickly putting his goalkeeper jersey up for sale after Schlegel became the unlikely hero of the Lions’ first playoff win on Saturday.

Starting goalkeeper Pedro Gallese delivered a stirring performance, but one yellow card for time-wasting during regulation and another for coming off his line during a penalty-kick stop triggered his ejection. After some debate, referees determined the Lions could not sub on a player after time had expired.

Schlegel, a bench player in his first year with the club, was on the pitch and repeatedly asked to replace Gallese.

New York City FC converted its initial penalty kick against a player who did not move during the attempt and had never practiced as a goalkeeper at the pro level, but Schlegel dove forward and stopped the next NYCFC kick to help clear the way for the Lions’ win.

After Benji Michel pushed home the next penalty kick to cement the victory, players celebrated and lifted Schlegel on their shoulders in front of the Wall.

Supporters immediately began asking Orlando City’s official Twitter account to put the team’s new ace goalkeeper’s jersey up for sale.

The Lions obliged, celebrating the hero of the first playoff win in club history.
