Orlando crash kills 2-year-old, sends sibling, mother to hospital, police say

A two-car crash in Orlando early Thursday killed a 2-year-old child and hospitalized an 8-year-old and their mother, according to the Orlando Police Department.

OPD responded to the crash between a gray Toyota Camry and a white Lincoln MKZ just after midnight in the 4100 block of Lake Underhill Road just west of Conway Road, and extracted the 2-year-old from the Camry to begin life-saving measures, according to a press release from OPD Lt. William Becton.

Orlando Fire Department then arrived and extracted the 8-year-old, also in need of life-saving measures, Becton said.

Both children were transported to the hospital, but the younger child did not survive. The 8-year-old was still in critical condition late Thursday morning.

The mother was also transported to the hospital, and was in serious but stable condition, Becton said. The driver of the second vehicle was also taken to the hospital, and is in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation by OPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit.

No other details were released.
