Man dead after shootout with Orlando police outside Mall at Millenia, chief says

A man in his 20s died Saturday night after a shootout with Orlando police officers outside the Mall at Millenia, according to Orlando police Chief Orlando Rolón.

The situation began shortly after 7 p.m. at the Neiman Marcus store when an Orlando police officer working an extra-duty shift at the mall kicked out a man of the store for acting oddly. The man then came back with a gun and fired shots at the officer from the parking lot, Rolón said.

He then ran to the Olive Garden nearby where he had a shootout with other officers and he was killed in the parking lot, Rolón said. It’s still being determined whether the man died from being shot by an officer, a self-inflicted wound or from a fall, Rolón said. No officers were injured.

Rolón said there were no more threats to the public and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting. The officers involved will be placed on administrative leave as is department policy. Rolón said body-worn camera footage captured the incident and it will be released within 30 days.

Roads around the mall were shut down as police investigated.

No other information was released.
