A 34-year-old Orlando woman died Saturday afternoon after a motorcycle she was riding on crashed in Edgewater, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the unidentified woman and the 31-year-old Melbourne man who was driving the motorcycle were heading west on Volco Road shortly before 6 p.m.

The driver lost control of the bike riding through a curve near 35th Street and hit a pole, said FHP spokeswoman Lt. Kim Montes.

Both people, who were wearing helmets, were thrown from the motorcycle, Montes said. The woman died at the scene and the man is in critical condition at a local hospital.

Troopers are investigating the crash.
