New Orleans mayor presents local legends with keys to city

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell presented two of New Orleans’ own with keys to the city on Monday, Feb. 5.

She presented the keys to brothers Bryan and Ronald Williams, who are known to the world as “Birdman” and “Slim.”

The two are co-founders of the famed record label “Cash Money Records,” founded in 1991, which throughout the years has signed artists like New Orleans natives Juvenile, Lil Wayne and Currency, and others like Lil Bow Wow, Busta Rhymes and Nicki Minaj.

Well-known songs created through the label include “Get Your Roll On,” “Bling Bling,” ” Slow Motion” and “Go DJ.”

Cantrell took to social media to express her gratitude for the two artists and entrepreneurs for the impact they have had on the city.

As a Son of the City of New Orleans, I admire your significant contributions to the music industry, steadfast encouragement of emerging artists, and your embodiment of the enduring the spirit of New Orleans through a lifelong commitment to community betterment.
