New Orleans musician Shamarr Allen is returning to St. Augustine on Friday, April 8 to play a free concert at Colonial Oak Music Park, 21 St. George St.

Allen, who previously played the venue on Oct. 15, is about to start a 45-plus city tour for his new album "True Orleans 2." He opens the tour April 7 at Center Stage Theater in Atlanta, followed by his stop at Colonial Oak Music Park.

Allen also has Florida stops at High Dive in Gainesville (April 13), Guanabanas in Jupiter (April 14), Hooch and Hive in Tampa (April 15), Beer in the Bushes in Sanibel (April 16).

New Orleans musician Shamarr Allen will return to St. Augustine to perform at the Colonial Oak Music Park on April 8.

"True Orleans 2," which shows the diverse musical styles of New Orleans, will be released May 6 under Allen’s own imprint POME Music Group. The official release will come May 7 when Shamarr Allen & The Underdawgs perform at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

The single "Dance With Me" from "True Orleans 2" was released Monday.

His fourth studio album and first in four years was recorded and produced by Allen at his studio in New Orleans. It follows "Box Who In?" (2009), "504-799-8147" (2011) and True Orleans (2018).

Allen has worked with G. Love, Willie Nelson, Patti LaBelle, Harry Connick, Lenny Kravitz and Galactic.

Since 2009, Allen has served as an official musical ambassador for the U.S. traveling to Brazil, Kazakhstan, Kurdistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and the Congo.

Some of Allen’s most important charitable work takes place right at home in his own backyard. For the past decade, Shamarr has been teaching music to local children, free of charge, at weekly sessions held in his mother’s home, with some of these students even performing at Allen’s Jazz Fest dates. And in 2020, Allen launched his Trumpet Is My Weapon gun exchange program after a nine-year-old was killed and two other youngsters were wounded in a New Orleans shooting. Giving away some of his own horns and using donations and money raised online to buy instruments, Allen offered a trumpet to any New Orleans youth who turns in a gun — free of charge, no questions asked.
