New Orleans police officer fires shot at person on Earhart Boulevard

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A New Orleans police officer fired a shot at a subject during an incident in the Fontainebleau neighborhood Thursday, Jan. 25.

A spokesperson for the New Orleans Police Department said the incident happened around 12:17 a.m. at the corner of College Court and Earhart Boulevard. Officers responded to the call of another officer needing assistance.

Investigators said that officers located a vehicle at the location matching the description of a reportedly stolen vehicle. As the officer approached, an unresponsive juvenile male was found sleeping in the running vehicle with what appeared to be a gun in his waistband.

After several attempts to wake him up, the juvenile awoke and attempted to drive off nearly striking several officers, according to officers.

During the incident, an NOPD officer reportedly fired a shot at the vehicle, missing the subject. The juvenile was not hit but suffered minor injuries from a broken glass window and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, said NOPD officers.

Upon release, the teenager will be arrested and booked into the Juvenile Justice Intervention Center for resisting a police officer with force or violence, juvenile in possession of a firearm
and three counts of aggravated assault upon a peace officer with a motor vehicle.

This is an ongoing investigation.
