Preparations underway for Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — State and city leaders are getting ready to welcome hundreds of thousands of football fans into the city for Super Bowl LIX.

The big game is scheduled for Feb. 9, 2025.

“For the 11th time, we’ll come together and show the NFL, hundreds of thousands of visitors, the country and the world why New Orleans is so often chosen to host the Super Bowl,” said Owner of the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans Gayle Benson.

New Orleans is gearing up to host Super Bowl LIX

On Wednesday at Club XLIV in Champions Square, elected officials, including Governor Jeff Landry, Mayor LaToya Cantrell and Benson and the New Orleans Super Bowl LIX Host Committee, led by the New Orleans Saints and the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, recognized its committee chairs, provided a Caesars Superdome renovation update and announced sponsors and its Supplier Diversity Program.

The Super Bowl LIX Supplier Diversity Program is an opportunity for local diverse businesses throughout Greater New Orleans to compete for contracts related to the Super Bowl. The program provides professional development, networking and subcontracting opportunities for members accepted into the program that is committed to supporting minority, women, disabled, LGBTQ+ and veteran-owned businesses.

Applications for the Supplier Diversity Program open Feb. 26, but business owners can already fill out an interest form by visiting the New Orleans Super Bowl website. The deadline to apply is March 31.

“The city of New Orleans has its own special ingredients that make us a record-setting Super Bowl host city,” said Cantrell. “That’s why this will be the 11th, and again not just because, it’s how special we are.”

The host committee started fundraising efforts months ago because the city will spend about $20 million to make hundreds of millions of dollars.

“This host committee takes the financial risk of raising the funds to pay for all those expenses, but the beneficiaries are the citizens and the businesses of our state,” said President and CEO of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation Jay Cicero.

Landry said he’s confident New Orleans will yet again execute a successful Super Bowl despite the city’s challenges.

“This state and the people of this city are going to rise to whatever challenge we need to do exactly what Miss Gayle said, and it is to make the Super Bowl one of the best events that has ever been held, not only in New Orleans but in the country,” said Landry.

The host committee reintroduced Entergy as one of its founding sponsors and announced Ochsner Health as a new sponsor and the premiere medical provider for Super Bowl LIX.

The City of New Orleans is also eagerly anticipating the completion of a $450-$500 million renovation of the Caesars Superdome, which will also celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025.
