Ormond Strong, VyStar Credit Union recognized for supporting military veterans

The Halifax Area Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America Friday recognized Ormond Strong and VyStar Credit Union for their support of veterans.

The chapter annually recognizes entities with its award for Outstanding Support to Veterans for organizations or businesses that contribute significantly to veterans and their families, according to a news release from the chapter.

Volusia County grassroots organization raises awareness, support

The nonprofit Ormond Strong, a support group for local military members, was formed in February 2015 by Debbie Kruck.

Members include veterans, their families, first responders and other supporters in the community.

Here are a few of the reasons the Halifax chapter chose to honor Ormond Strong:

  • Letters and supplies for more than 1,500 care packages for deployed service members.

  • PTSD awareness events.

  • Support for the Veterans Museum and Education Center in Daytona Beach (the group paid for the first 20 years' rent for 302 Vermont Ave.).

VyStar deemed military-friendly in multiple ways

The second-largest credit union headquartered in Florida has received multiple designations from VIQTORY, a military-focused veteran-owned marketing company, for "meeting or exceeding the standard of recruiting, hiring and training of veterans and their spouses" as well as having partnerships with veteran-owned businesses, according to the chapter's news release.

Here are a couple of the other reasons the Halifax chapter chose to honor VyStar:

  • It signed a partnership agreement with the United States Army's Partnership for Your Success Program, which guarantees an interview and possible employment to service members and veterans.

  • VyStar’s Naval Air Station Jacksonville branch has USO Pathfinder Military Transition Service Center office, which offers support to members transitioning to civilian life.
