Emily Batchlet of Orrville High School is the recipient of the Richard & Ruth Niemiec Scholarship from Junior Achievement of North Central Ohio.

She will attend The Ohio State University this fall.

The scholarship was offered to graduating seniors with previous JA program involvement. Students shared future goals and the impact of JA’s financial- and career-focused curriculum on the plans.

“I have believed in the mission of JA ever since I read an article in Readers Digest years ago that pointed out that Junior Achievement was to city teenagers what 4H was to teenagers who lived on a farm,” said Richard Niemiec, who co-founded JANCO’s Wayne County presence in 1969. “Thus, the reason for continuing JA’s philosophy, which is more important now than at any time in its 100-plus-year history.”

“Today’s students are truly in a different class,” said Lori McCleese, president of JANCO. “Their dedication to personal improvement shines through their resilience in challenges, response to adversities and overwhelming community engagement. All the recipients highlighted what it means to be enterprising, civic-minded individuals in their high school careers and extracurricular activities. In short, they exemplify what Junior Achievement programs strive to foster.”
