Maybe it’s spring fever, a pandemic-fueled appreciation for the smaller things…or just Instagram, but fashion is crazy for flowers.

Designer and domestic goddess Laura Kim, who has become a baby Martha Stewart on social media in recent months, grows edible flowers on her tiny apartment terrace. She wants to wear them, too: “After 14 months, I just want to look pretty again,” she said.

So, after the success she and codesigner Fernando Garcia have already seen with their fall 2021 3D flower-embroidered minidress (worn by Taylor Swift at the Grammys in March, it caused such an online sensation that it has spawned TikTok recreations) they decided to keep the flowerfest going.

For resort, they ticked the flower box and others.

Instagrammable floral print on silk faille cocktail dresses? This season’s has a surrealist mood, with a field of flowers in the style of Vogue contributing editor and landscape designer Miranda Brooks. Art reference? The bright palette was inspired by the limestone boulders of Ugo Rondinone, which they discovered on Nicky Hilton’s Instagram feed. Rainbow connection? It came in the form of a melange knit sweater, worn with great-looking salmon pink faille palazzo pants.

“A lot of our clients are buying pants for evening events,” said Kim, noting a jumpsuit on offer, too.

The other news was how the duo pushed into more playful high-low dressing for day, pairing a structured rainbow tweed mini dress with sneakers as someone under age 25 would, and making a romper look special and new in buttery sky blue leather. A sunshine yellow turtleneck sweater with a single densely embroidered crystal flower was another example of their attention to knitwear.

For red carpet evenings, draped ombre chiffon gowns, solid silk faille cocktail dresses, and floral sequin-embroidered organza columns in silver, gold or copper felt a bit flat, however, lacking that extra oomph.
