Oscar Mayer’s bologna-inspired face mask sells out fast. Company promises more soon

Oscar Mayer is best known for its iconic lunchmeats, but the company’s latest creation isn’t meant for eating.

The Kraft Heinz brand quickly sold out of its new bologna-inspired hydrogel sheet face masks hours after launching on Amazon on Jan. 19, USA Today reported. The limited-edition masks, which promise to “rejuvenate your skin while recapturing that childhood joy,” mark the brand’s first foray into the skin care space.

The company partnered with Seoul Mamas, a Korean beauty and skincare company in St. Louis, for the launch.

Amazon was still fresh out of the masks as of Friday, Jan. 21. But Oscar Mayer urged fans not to fret, as a restock is coming soon.

“Demand has surpassed our expectations – becoming Amazon’s #1 new release in the Beauty & Personal Care category, #3 top-selling face mask ... in just 12 hours after launching,” Kraft Heinz said in a statement provided to McClatchy News. “We are working diligently with our seller and with Amazon to get the sheet masks restocked over the coming days.”

The individually packaged, single-use hydrating masks were selling for $5 before they sold out on Amazon. They’ve since popped up on resale sites including eBay, where they’re listed for between $18 and $30.

The lunchmeat-like sheets are soaked with skin-loving ingredients such as witch hazel botanicals and collagen for skin elasticity, according the official product description. The pink hue resembles real bologna, but customers are reminded to “put it on your face, not your sandwich.”

“Inspired by those who used to playfully make masks out of their bologna as kids, this product was born as a modern-day way to spark smiles for fans of Oscar Mayer and beauty enthusiasts alike,” Lindsey Ressler, senior marketing analyst for Oscar Mayer, said in a statement.

Fans eager to get their hands on the limited-edition masks are advised to check back on Amazon in next few days.

Customers should add it to their Wish List to get one as soon as the masks are available again, a Seoul Mamas spokesperson told McClatchy News.
