From stealing a cache of Saddam Hussein’s hidden gold to playing a Massachusetts State Police sergeant, Mark Wahlberg’s characters have found themselves in peculiar situations over the past few decades.

Even more peculiar? Wahlberg himself was hanging out in Boise on Tuesday. At an Albertsons.

The movie star posted a video on his Instagram Thursday of him visiting the Albertsons on Broadway near Boise State University.

Albertsons Service Operations Manager Ginell Wilcox told the Idaho Statesman that Wahlberg’s visit Tuesday was unexpected. She said he spent several minutes talking to customers and employees in the store before promoting his tequila, Flecha Azul Tequila, at the bar on Albertsons’ second level.

Albertsons also stocks several of Wahlberg’s food products, such as Wahlburger ground beef patties and hot chips.

“We’re going to partner up with Albertsons,” Wahlberg said in the video. “We’re going to make sure we’ve got all the best sports nutrition.”

The Albertsons headquarters are based near downtown Boise, close to the store on Broadway.

Wahlberg ran into Boise State football’s JL Skinner in the parking lot, and that was also part of his video. Upon hearing that Skinner was likely to be taken in the NFL Draft this week — Skinner will most likely be the first Bronco off the board — Wahlberg pleaded with New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick to draft the hard-hitting safety.

Wahlberg is from the Boston area and is a famous fan of the city’s sports teams.

“Coach, come on, right here, what are you doing,” Wahlberg said as Skinner recorded on his phone. “Listen, they just got Aaron Rodgers over there (in New York). You’ve got Buffalo with Josh Allen. We’ve got to get the defense stacked up; stop playing around, coach.”

Wahlberg was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in Martin Scorsese’s “The Departed.” He has starred in a wide range of dramas, comedies and action films over the years, including “Three Kings,” “Boogie Nights,” “The Italian Job,” “The Fighter,” “The Perfect Storm,” “The Other Guys,” “Ted” and “Daddy’s Home.”

Wahlberg announced an ownership stake in Flecha Azul Tequila in 2022.
