The Oscar nominees' best fashion moments of awards season
Predicting Oscar fashion is a losing game. We could mull over whose stylist has been spotted at whose runway show and which actresses have which designer contracts for hours but it would all lead us back to the only thing we do know: What the nominees have been wearing this season.
The 10 actresses who are up for Best Actress and Best Actress in a Supporting Role have been hitting red carpets since September 2019 — between the film festivals, the premieres, and the first round of awards shows, there have been plenty of hints as to what styles we might see at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday. We’ve picked out our personal favorite looks from each star so that you can make your own predictions.
Lady Gaga (Best Actress nominee for A Star Is Born)
The Venice Film Festival: The singer brought the drama in this fluffy, feathery Valentino couture gown that can only be described as voluminous.
The SAG Awards: She sported a plunging, white Christian Dior dress and her most dramatic lip of award season.
The A Star Is Born Los Angeles premiere: Gaga went haute couture again, this time in a gown by Givenchy. Some say it was a nod to vintage Barbra Streisand and her 1976 version of the film, in which her character Esther accepts a Grammy in a silver cape.
Glenn Close (Best Actress nominee for The Wife)
The Critics’ Choice Awards: Close wore a snazzy Gabriela Hearst creation to collect the award for Best Actress, which she shared with Lady Gaga.
Toronto International Film Festival: The actress chose a black Zac Posen number for The Wife‘s first big debut.
