Oscars: 'The Power of the Dog' or 'CODA'?

STORY: The bets are on ahead of the Oscars

‘The Power of the Dog’ is expected to seal its winning streak

but bookmakers say ‘CODA’ is closing in for the best film prize

‘'Well if you'd have asked us a week ago, 'The Power of the Dog' would have been pretty much a shoo-in to win it was something of a foregone conclusion quite a heavy odds-on favorite, but such was the success of 'CODA' at the Producers Guild of America Awards last weekend which is generally considered the last indicator of where the Oscars might go, we have seen so much interest, a lot of punters have jumped on 'CODA', it was 12/1 at the start of the month and it's now as short as 11/10. So it's pretty much a two-horse race between ‘The Power of the Dog’ and ‘CODA’"

‘CODA’ is a story about the only hearing member of a deaf family

It claimed the top honors from the Producers Guild and Screen Actors Guild

‘The Power of the Dog’ is set on a 1920s Montana ranch

It scooped best film and director at the BAFTAs

and has 12 Oscar nominations including leading actor

and best director for Jane Campion

'‘I mean If you wanted a shoe-in this weekend, then it has to be Jane Campion for best director. It's one to 25 as far as the odds are concerned, what that basically means is if you're another of those nominees up for best director, I mean, you can have a comfortable night, put your feet up, leave your speech at home, there is no chance as far as the odds are concerned that she's going to lose that. It would surely go down as the biggest upset in the history of the Oscars.’’
