OSHA opens investigation into Falmouth wall collapse

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has opened an investigation into two companies after a wall collapsed at a Falmouth construction site on Feb. 2 seriously injuring two workers who were flown by helicopter to the hospital.

OSHA spokesperson Ted Fitzgerald said in an email Friday inspections of Evolution Pro Builder Inc. and general contractor the Milton Co. are ongoing and will determine the employers’ compliance with health and safety standards.

“OSHA will gather whatever information is necessary to make a determination,” Fitzgerald said. “If the inspections identify violations, OSHA could issue citations and propose penalties for the employer(s) involved.”

The incident occurred at 2:30 p.m. at 513 Brick Kiln Road on Feb. 2. At first, one worker was reported injured, and then a second worker was reported injured. The two men were removed from under the fallen wall by fellow workers before first-responders arrived, the fire department said in a statement on Feb. 2.

Calls to Falmouth fire department administration were not immediately returned Friday.

Fitzgerald said specifics of the investigation could not be discussed since the probe is ongoing, adding the process could take up to six months. He said they do not have an estimate of when the investigation will be finished.
