Oshkosh coffee shop to close its location in downtown coworking space The Grind | Streetwise

OSHKOSH – A mix of pandemic-related issues is forcing a community-favorite coffee shop to close one of its locations.

Planet Perk Coffeehouses will close its spot in the Rise and Grind coworking space, 240 Algoma Blvd., Suite 101B. Its last day is June 30.

"It's another victim of COVID and the economy," owner Ken Osmond said. "The competition pretty much just wiped it out."

Osmond said traffic at the coffee shop had not returned to pre-pandemic levels since it reopened. In addition, the city's recent influx of coffee shops, including two additional Starbucks locations and a Dunkin' Donuts — with plans for another on the way — lowered demand. He said his staff will focus its efforts on the City Center location as well as its kiosk in the Oshkosh Arena.

The Grind location offered a drive-thru as well as a small dine-in area that was popular for those using the coworking space. It's also conveniently located next door to Oshkosh's City Hall.

A June 14 post on Planet Perk on the Grind's Facebook page expressed sadness about the news but optimism for continuing business at its original location.

"Our focus now is to keep Planet Perk at City Center open for as long as we can," the post said. "If nothing else, so we can keep serving the community, supporting local causes and helping those in need."

Planet Perk in the Grind opened on Jan. 24, 2017.
