Oshkosh will host four-day Mercury Racing Owners Poker Run in 2024
OSHKOSH - Mercury Racing recently announced plans for the first Mercury Racing Owners Poker Run. It is tentatively set for June 20-23, 2024, in Oshkosh.
The event is being planned with the help of the Oshkosh Convention & Visitors Bureau and event planner Shannon Radtke.
“We could not be more excited to work with Mercury Racing, the City of Oshkosh and Shannon Radtke,” Jodi Jensema, Discover Oshkosh Sales and Services manager, shared in a news release. “Mercury Racing has a long history in Oshkosh, and we love that they want to share this with the Oshkosh community.”
Preliminary plans include a poker run, concert, parade of powerboats, street dance and Mercury Racing factory tours.

Golf outing to benefit Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh
The Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh Alumni group will hold its second annual golf outing Aug. 13. The public is welcome to participate. You do not need to be a club alum to golf. The W&J Alumni Outing will be at Far Vu Golf Course, 4985 County R.
All proceeds support Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh youth through camp and learning experiences.
Camp Radford, the club’s day camp in New London, has been supported by the alumni since it opened in 1982.
The inaugural outing in 2022 raised $12,000 for maintenance, improvements and staffing the camp.
The cost is $75 per golfer or $300 per foursome and includes 18 holes of golf with cart, a gift, lunch, and the chance to take part in raffles and win prizes.
Registration opens at 9 a.m. with a four-person scramble at 10 a.m. A social hour will follow from 3 to 5 p.m. Register online at bgcosh.org or contact Bethany Ferguson at 920-233-1414, ext. 122 or bethanyf@bgcosh.org.
Raffle prizes are still needed for the outing. Donation ideas include themed baskets, golf items, sporting event tickets, restaurant gift cards and more.
No garbage collection July 4; services are one day later
The city of Oshkosh Sanitation Division reminds residents there will not be garbage or recycling collection July 4.
Collections will be one day later for the rest of the week, including on July 8. Regular service resumes July 10.
The yard waste drop-off site on West Third Avenue will be open regular hours July 1, 2 and 3. It will be closed for the holiday on July 4. Normal hours resume July 5.

GO Transit services suspended in observance of July Fourth
GO Transit’s bus service, and GO Plus Paratransit Services, will not operate July 4 in observance of Independence Day. GO Transit’s office at 926 Dempsey Trail also will be closed.
Regular operations will resume July 5.

Church partners with RIP Medical Debt to clear bills for thousands
Trinity Episcopal Church launched a medical debt fundraising campaign in February with a goal of $12,000. The effort raised $16, 421. Funds were used to pay medical debt for 2,654 people in Wisconsin and Illinois.
Trinity partnered with the national nonprofit RIP Medical Debt, which finds the debt of those most in need — households that earn less than four times the federal poverty level. According to a news release, the organization then buys debt in bundles, millions of dollars at a time at a fraction of the original cost. Recipients have no tax consequences or penalties.
In Winnebago County, $73,000 of medical debt was cleared for 45 people. The effort also eliminated debt for 19 people in Fond du Lac County and 34 in Outagamie County.
