OSHKOSH – Walmart Supercenter shoppers will experience more ease and convenience when visiting the newly remodeled Oshkosh location.

The store at 351 S. Washburn St. celebrated a grand reopening Friday to unveil the changes, which include updated directional signage to assist customers, additional self-checkout lanes, a new mother's room and new flooring.

Additionally, Oshkosh store manager Carlos Rodriguez said several departments have a new layout.

"It doesn't look like any other (old) Walmart store," Rodriguez said.

Its apparel section, for example, features several new brands and interactive displays to help customers get more information about the products.

"We have good products (and) good brands, and the company realized we need to put a little more effort in showing that to customers," he said. "In retail, especially in clothing, there's a lot to say in how you display the merchandise."

The new "mother's room" is a dedicated room in the back of the store near the restrooms for mothers to take care of their baby's needs. The private room includes a couch and chair and can be locked from the inside, similar to a single-stall restroom. It's available for any mother who wants to use it.

Rodriguez said the new directional signage and aisle labels can help better aid customers on finding products — and, those using the Walmart app on their smartphones can also search a specific product and see exactly which aisle to find it.

Oshkosh's Walmart was one of 28 stores throughout Wisconsin that was updated as part of a more than $150 million investment the corporation made to its stores.

At the Friday celebration, Rodriguez said he also gave donations to five local organizations: $3,000 to the Oshkosh Police Department, $2,500 to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society, $1,750 to the Oshkosh Salvation Army, and $1,000 each to the Oshkosh Area Community Pantry and the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh.

Those funds come from the Walmart Foundation, which Rodriguez said allocates a certain amount of every year for the store to give out, and he always chooses groups that are local and also do work that benefits the community.
