OSHKOSH — Carly Krueger, a registered nurse in the emergency department at Aurora Health Care, was selected as a 2023 Nurse of the Year for her demonstration of Aurora’s core nursing values and unwavering delivery of best-in-class care.

Krueger is a preceptor in the emergency department, mentoring new graduate RNs and experienced RNs alike. A news release said she is a champion of the trauma program, assisting with data abstraction, quality improvement initiatives, survey readiness, committee work and supply management.

Krueger is working toward her Certified Emergency Nurse certification, which validates that nurses have accumulated the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform high-level emergency nursing care.

More than 750 nominations for this award were received on behalf of nurses from a variety of specialties. Nominations were submitted by clinicians and teammates and reviewed by peer committees for blinded judging according to each nominee’s passion for patient care, commitment to service, solution-oriented abilities and evidence-based practice.

Aurora Health Care is part of Advocate Health, which employs more than 42,000 nurses across the nation, including 27 acute care facilities and more than 500 sites of care in the Midwest.

J&R rescue has birds available for adoption

J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue has announced its support of Adopt a Rescued Bird Month, observed every January.

The rescue, primarily known for its commitment to aquatic animal welfare, has extended its reach to include other pets in need. Last year, the organization took in more than 100 birds, including 45 parakeets that were part of an animal control seizure.

This Green Cheeked Conure is one of the birds available for adoption at J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue in Neenah.

J&R Aquatic Director John Moyles said in a news release, “We are an aquatic animal rescue, sure, but we never turn away a pet or person in need.”

The rescue is still looking for homes for some of the birds taken in over the last year. There is no adoption fee as those adoptions are donation based.

With thousands of birds abandoned and homeless, this month encourages people to consider adopting rather than purchasing birds from other sources. The adoption process is made easier through the accessibility of information on the Internet, allowing potential adopters to see and learn about birds before making a decision.

J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue is at 976 American Drive, Neenah. For more information about adopting a rescued bird, visit jraar.org.
