Oshkosh Y's annual Kids Mud Run and Family Fest returns with wet and muddy fun June 4: Weekly dose
OSHKOSH - The Oshkosh YMCA will host the eighth annual Kids Mud Run June 4 at 3303 W. 20th Ave.
Kids ages 4-16 are invited to join in the wet, muddy fun as they complete a 1-mile course with more than 15 obstacles.
Proceeds support the financial assistance program for youth, family and individual memberships, programs and child care.
A free Family Fest will be held noon-3 p.m. also on June 4 at the Y. There will be a petting zoo, balloon twister, face painting, carnival and lawn games, craft activities, and more. Several food trucks will be on site offering refreshments for purchase.

▶ Oshkosh School District to host job fair May 23: Oshkosh Area School District is hosting a district-wide job fair with on-the-spot interviews from 3 to 6 p.m. May 23 at the OASD Administration Office, 215 S. Eagle St., Oshkosh.
Positions include teaching, substitute teaching, clerical, custodial, food service and more, with both full- and part-time options.
Job seekers will meet with HR staff, principals, supervisors and educators to learn about current open positions with immediate start dates. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required.

▶ Members show set for June 3 at Art Space Collective: Art Space Collective will host an All Members Show from 6 to 9 p.m. June 3 at 7 Merritt St.
The All Members Show is a collaborative effort to showcase exceptional visual art in the mediums of drawing, painting, sculpture, fibers and mixed media. The event is open to the public.
Art Space Collective hosts a variety of shows throughout the year. Each month features a different artist and artist collaborations as well as an Oshkosh Youth Art show in March. Opening receptions for each show are held 6 to 9 p.m. the first Saturday of each month, and are open to the public.
Regular hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

▶ Marine Corps League 357 hosts annual Veterans' Benefit and Ride: The Winnebago Detachment Marine Corps League 357 and Auxiliary of Oshkosh will hold its 12th annual Veterans' Benefit and Ride on June 3. The benefit will be held at the Marine Corps League, 4715 Sherman Road, Oshkosh.
There will be a self-guided poker run with eight stops. The cost is $20 for the driver and $15 for the passenger. Register from 8 to 10 a.m. at the League. Riders should return to obtain their poker hand.
The day also includes several raffles, food and refreshments with Kitty Corona offering entertainment from 2 to 6 p.m. There is no fee to enter the grounds.

▶ Rebel Alliance Theater to present 'I Am My Own Wife': Rebel Alliance Theatre will present “I Am My Own Wife” by Doug Wright in June. The show will be performed at 7 p.m. June 9, 10, 16 and 17 at First Congregational Church Oshkosh, 137 Algoma Blvd.
“I Am My Own Wife,” a 2004 Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning play, chronicles the story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, whom Doug interviews in post-reunified Germany while revelations on Stasi collaborators keep making headlines.
A trans woman (self-described “transvestite,” per the language available at the time), Charlotte survived Nazi Germany and then life in the GDR under the Soviets, wearing skirts instead of carrying a gun.
In East Germany during the rule of the Stasi and the USSR, there were mass invasions of privacy, strict legislation and terror tactics to keep people in line.
Tickets start at $18; there are 24 seats per performance.

▶ Oshkosh youth visit with residents at Parkview: Since the beginning of the school semester, nine Oshkosh students have been joining Parkview Health Center in Tuesday activities.
The activities include crafts, board games, and quality conversations. It is a way to familiarize the students with what interests the residents, and to form personal connections.
The residents have the opportunity for strolling through the parks, enjoying the accessible patio to the sun, and even accommodating bike rides. These experiences were not only rewarding for the residents, but the students as well.
“The most cherishing moment for me was when a resident told me they looked forward to the activities but seeing us students more,” according to Allycia Tlatelpa, one of the participating students.
Parkview Health Center is a nursing home owned by Winnebago County. It offers numerous programs for the community such as CNA training, hospitality aids, and multiple opportunities for volunteers. Volunteers are needed to help with tandem biking, transporting residents to the garden and participating in games. For more information, contact Missy Grundman at mgrundman@co.winnebago.wi.us.
