Oshkosh North students organized successful Memory Café: Students from the Oshkosh North High School Communities Program hosted a Memory Café in collaboration with the Fox Valley Memory Project April 24 at the 20th Street YMCA.

The Fox Valley Memory Project is a nonprofit organization that offers events and support for those living with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, and their families.

Prior to planning the event, students first went through a brief dementia training presentation where they learned how to communicate with and create a calming environment for people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

During the event, participants painted flower pots with their families and the high school students, then planted succulent plants for them to take home. Spring-themed desserts were provided by the students in culinary classes.

OASD recommends Julie Conrad-Peters as assistant superintendent of operations: Oshkosh Area School District has announced Julie Conrad-Peters is being recommended to serve as the district’s assistant superintendent of operations.

The appointment will be included as an agenda item on the May 10 OASD Board of Education Meeting. Pending board approval, the appointment would begin July 1.

Julie Conrad-Peters
Julie Conrad-Peters

Conrad serves as the OASD’s director of curriculum and assessment and has served the Oshkosh school district and community for more than 30 years. She began her educational career as a science teacher at Oshkosh West High School before becoming a curriculum support specialist for the OASD.

In 2007, she became an assistant principal at Oshkosh West and in 2010 began leading Webster Stanley Middle School as principal before assuming her current district leadership role in 2012.

The OASD said it conducted an extensive interview process that included interview teams of staff from all levels of the organization, as well as district leadership. In March 2023, the OASD Board of Education approved the school district’s 2023-2024 organizational chart, which includes the assistant superintendent of operations position. The new position replaces the deputy superintendent position, currently held by Dr. Dave Gundlach, who announced his June 30 retirement from public education earlier this year.

The district serves more than 9,000 students and operates 13 elementary schools, five middle schools, two high schools, one charter school, and an eAcademy.
