May 3—School: Knoxville
The Panthers played 63 holes of golf last week and got great results, winning the North/South Invite, taking third at the Moravia Mohawk Invite, winning a home triangular and finishing second by one stroke at their home invite. Freshman Evan Smith was a big part of that success as he continues to thrive in his first year in varsity golf.
Smith started the week by taking the medalist honors while helping the Panthers to a first place finish amongst eight teams at the North/South Invite with a round of 76.
Smith and the Panthers then returned to The Preserve for the Moravia Invite, taking third as a team amongst 18 teams while Smith scored another round of 76, good for fourth place in this tournament.
Knoxville then returned home for a triangular on Friday, which Smith earned medalist for with a two-under round of 33. Smith was back on Pine Knolls Golf Club on Saturday for the Knoxville Invitational where he put together another good round of golf, carding a 77 which was good for third place and one stroke behind second.
On the season, Smith ranks sixth in 3A in 18-hole adjusted average (takes nine-hole and 18-hole rounds and averages it out for an 18-hole round average) with an average score of 78.35, which also ranks first amongst freshmen in the state.
Smith and Knoxville are back on the course after a week off as they will prepare for the South Central Conference Meet at Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa on Tuesday, May 11 at 10 a.m.
