Painter and stained glass artist Sue Nichols' art depicts life on an orchard near La Luz.

Nichols' works began being exhibited at Otero Artspace, 1118 Indiana Avenue in Alamogordo, on June 3 with an opening reception.

"(Inspiration) comes from a feeling and a connection which, for most of us, is not easy to explain," Nichols said. "I can tell you this: it comes from the land. The history of this land and my connections and the people that live on this land."

Nichols is owner and CEO of Nichols Ranch and Orchards in La Luz where she paints apples and cherries, birds and livestock, children and flowers.

Nichols has accomplished over 70 commissioned stain glass works in Santa Fe and Cuba, New Mexico and has also performed restorations on historic Alamogordo structures.

Nichols' exhibit can be seen at Otero Artspace form 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays until June 30.
