OU men's basketball hires Matt Brady as an assistant coach, per report

OU men's basketball will add Matt Brady to its staff as an assistant coach. CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein first reported the hiring on Saturday.

Brady served as an assistant coach at Maryland from 2018-22 before accepting the same position at Elon on May 18. Rather than joining the Phoenix, he now joins an OU t that went 19-16 last season (7-11 Big 12).

Brady brings 35 years of coaching experience to the table.

His first head coaching gig came at Marist, where he led the Red Foxes to a 73-50 record in four seasons. The team earned its first postseason victory in program history, a 2007 National Invitation Tournament win over Oklahoma State, during that time.

Brady then spent eight seasons at the helm of James Madison. The Dukes went 138-125 during that stretch and earned a First Four win in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

Brady is the first of what's sure to be a series of additions to OU's staff this offseason.

The Sooners are in search of a new director of basketball operations following the departure of Mike Shepherd, who left Norman last December to become Casady School's athletic director.

OU must also fill a third and final assistant coaching position following the departures of David Patrick and K.T. Turner. Patrick accepted the head coaching gig at Sacramento State on April 5, while Turner joined Kentucky as an assistant coach on Tuesday.
