OurBus expands service between Binghamton and New York City. How travel will be impacted

As the fall semester gets underway in Broome County, a travel company is expanding service between Binghamton and New York City for students and other riders.

Rally OurBus announced it has increased its Binghamton-New York City schedule and added a new bus stop in Manhattan along the route.

OurBus has scheduled additional trips running on Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday to accommodate students traveling between Binghamton and the George Washington Bridge bus station in New York City. The beefed up bus schedule includes holidays when an increase in travelers is expected, the company said. Buses will also run up to eight times a day on Friday and Sunday.

New trips leave Binghamton at 12:45 p.m. on Friday, Sunday and holidays, and at 3:20 a.m. on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

“The 12:45 p.m. trip was specifically requested by Binghamton University students who get off class around noon,” stated OurBus.

For trips back to Binghamton, meanwhile, the new schedule features bus rides that leave the George Washington Bridge bus station at 5:45 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

In addition to the expanded routes, select trips have been moved to a new location at 11th Avenue and 36th Street in the Hudson Yards area of Manhattan. These trips leave New York City at 11:30 a.m. and Binghamton at 6:30 p.m.

OurBus said the new location offers closer access to Penn Station and reduces travel time through city traffic, saving about 10 minutes.

The OurBus stop in Binghamton is located at 81 Chenango St. at the Greater Binghamton Bus Terminal, Gate 15.

OurBus will offer special routes for Binghamton University students this fall that run only five times per year. The routes fall on specific days when Binghamton University breaks are starting and ending.

These routes run directly to neighborhoods with a high concentration of students’ homes, said the company, including stops in New York City, Middletown and Stamford, Connecticut.

The first special route is scheduled for Oct. 17 coinciding with fall break at Binghamton University.
