Outback Creek Brought Back to Life by Rains in Far Western New South Wales

Water returned to a dried-up creek in western New South Wales, Australia, on July 25, as a low pressure system of the country’s east coast brought wet conditions to many parts of the state.

Most of regional New South Wales had “been in an intense drought” until conditions eased in 2020. However, parts of western New South Wales, including Eldee Station, are still considered to be in intense drought by the Department of Primary Industries. The station told Storyful it had been in drought for four years straight and the water seen in the video was just in the creek and did not land on their paddocks.

The Bureau of Meteorology expected the weather system to bring increased rain, wind and waves over the week as it tracked south from Queensland. Flash flooding warnings were issued in Sydney and Newcastle on July 26. Credit: Eldee Station & Outback NSW Australia via Storyful
