New outdoor music venue is opening in Sacramento. It’s kicking off with a summer festival

Sacramento’s newest outdoor entertainment venue is opening its doors this summer with a music festival.

The Backyard joins a long list of hot spots in the city for live music, according to a Tuesday news release from Nederlander Concerts, an entertainment promoter.

The Backyard is located behind Rock & Brews restaurant at 1600 Exposition Blvd. in the Cal Expo neighborhood.

The venue can hold up to 3,500 people and will have seating layouts, onsite parking and tree-shaded areas.

Who will book concerts at new Sacramento music venue?

Nederlander Concerts will partner with The Backyard to book talent and produce shows for The Backyard.

According to its website, Nederlander Concerts has been putting on shows across the country, including the Hollywood Pantages Theater and Heart Health Park in Sacramento.

“We’ve worked extensively in Sacramento and have a history of successfully appealing to the local residents with a diverse roster of talent,” Rena Wasserman, senior vice president of production and operations for Nederlander Concerts, said in the release.

“We are thrilled to have this partnership with Nederlander Concerts,” Chris Healey, general manager for The Backyard, said in the release. “We are very familiar with the organization and welcome their expertise in booking great artists at The Backyard.”

According to the release, the partnership is aimed at highlighting live music in the Sacramento area.

Who’s playing at The Backyard in Cal Expo?

To kick off the 2024 summer entertainment season, The Backyard is presenting the Sad Summer Festival on Friday, July 12.

The festival will celebrate its five-year anniversary with an entertainment lineup that includes Mayday Parade, The Maine, The Wonder Years and We The Kings.

Also performing will be Real Friends, Knuckle Puck, Daisy Grenade, The Summer Set and Like Roses.

Tickets for the festival go on sale via Ticketmaster at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1.

On Friday, Aug. 9, rock bands Los Lobos and Los Lonely Boys will bring “The Brotherhood Tour” to The Backyard. General admission tickets for that show go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, March 8.

Next on the lineup at The Backyard is Grammy Award-winning Latin pop star Julieta Venegas. She’s performing on Friday, Sept. 20 and general admission tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1.
