From Town & Country

When Sam Heughan and his Outlander co-star Graham McTavish first announced their "Clanlands" project, it was a podcast focused on the history, culture, and landscape of Scotland. But the endeavor has since evolved into a travel show called Men in Kilts and a new book, which retains that original Clanlands name.

Watch the trailer for Men in Kilts above, and get the scoop on the series, which is set to premiere later this year on Starz at this link. Then read on for everything we know about Clanlands: Whisky, Warfare, and a Scottish Adventure Like No Other so far.

Clanlands will focus on the actors' road trip through Scotland.

Much like the original plan for the podcast, the book will highlight Scotland's history, culture, and clans while also delving into Heughan and McTavish's friendship, careers, their roles on Outlander, and more. Clanlands will also include what sound like never-before-published photos of the actors, and maps, so you can recreate their journey if you so choose—once it's safe to travel again, that is.

Still not intrigued? McTavish playfully described the work as a "confessional meets a road trip meets a death-defying experience." We're in.

And a second conversation with the actors-turned-authors, in which they answer some fan questions, here:

They wrote it during lockdown.

During the above Instagram conversations, both men called the book a "miracle," and shared that they worked on the story for three to four months, as the world locked down due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

It will be released on November 3. Pre-order it at the link below:

Outlander author Diana Gabaldon wrote the forward.

"I’ve been indirectly responsible for a lot of Strange Things since I wrote OUTLANDER (from the names of purebred dogs, racehorses and housing developments, to Lord John Grey’s Tea, symphonic band compositions, a musical, a woolen mill specializing in tartan, a marvelous pair of cookbooks, many, many guided tours of Scotland, and an excellent whisky called “Sassenach”) – but this may be one of the strangest, and definitely one of the best!" she shared on Facebook.

"I’m deeply honored that Sam and Graham have asked me to write the Foreword to one of the most interesting, unusual (to put it mildly…) and hilarious books I’ve read in a long time!

The two editions will have slightly different covers.

Heughan is keeping busy these days.

In addition to Clanlands and Men in Kilts with McTavish, Heughan is also working on season six of Outlander, though production has been delayed because of COVID-19, and he also recently launched a whisky brand called Sassenach Spirits.
